Volunteer Shift Signup

We are also looking for paid volunteers.  If interested, please register for a position and write “for hire” in the notes section.  Our volunteer coordinator, James Steele, will contact you with details. If you have questions, please contact James at james@sourwoodrunning.com.

How many volunteers does each team need to provide?

9 & 12 person teams need to provide two volunteers for one 6 – 8 hour shift. 6 person teams need to provide one volunteer. All shifts are during the race, beginning at 5 am on Friday and continuing until 8 pm on Saturday. Your volunteers will be able to sign up for a shift of their choice.

How do I get our volunteers signed up for a shift?

You will receive an email when volunteer registration opens instructing you to have your volunteers sign up for their shifts. Please be sure to send this message to your volunteer in a timely manner. Spots are filled first-come, first-served, so the earlier your volunteer registers, the more choices they will have. We will also post the volunteer registration link on the website.

What happens if our volunteer doesn’t show?

If you have elected to provide volunteers and they do not show on race day, you will be assessed a $500 fine before you are able to collect your finishers’ items.

How old do the volunteers need to be?

All volunteers must be physically capable of performing the assigned duties. Children ages 13 – 18 may volunteer if accompanied by an adult.

How does the Rent-A-Volunteer option work?

We work with local high schools, non-profits, and for-hire labor to provide volunteers that you can rent to fulfill your volunteer requirement. You pay $175 per volunteer, and that money is donated to the school or non-profit, or paid to the for-hire labor. If you choose this route, you only need to pay for the volunteer; we will take care of the rest. Payment must be made by April 30, 2023, or the price per volunteer goes up to $250 each.

What if we thought we could get volunteers at registration, but now we can’t find any? Can we switch to the Rent-A-Volunteer program?

You may switch your selection on who is providing volunteers through April 30, 2024. After that date, we cannot guarantee that we can find volunteers for you. Email james@sourwoodrunning.com to make this change.

What happens if we have not paid for our Rent-A-Volunteer?

You will be required to pay for your volunteers at check-in or you will not be able to run the race. No exceptions.

I want to volunteer for the Wild Rogue Relay. How can I do that?

Please email james@sourwoodrunning.com if you would like to help out at the race. We would love to have your help! We especially want to hear from local non-profits who would like to raise funds for their programs.

Is your non-profit interested in raising funds while supporting enthusiastic people pursuing their favorite sport, often in crazy costumes?

We are looking for groups who are willing to provide volunteers for 6 to 8-hour shifts during the relay race weekend. For each shift worked, volunteers will receive up to $120 that can be donated to a non-profit of your choice. Volunteers also receive a shirt to keep and a basic meal with their assignment. The jobs include recording team numbers and times, directing parking and other duties as assigned. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and physically capable of completing the assigned tasks.

It’s an easy way to earn some extra funds for your group and to have a blast while doing it.

If you are interested in learning more about how our race can benefit your non-profit, please email james@sourwoodrunning.com for more information.
